From multi-stage hospital redevelopments to specialist treatment facilities, Rigsafe has worked on some of Western Australia's most complex healthcare projects. Over many years of project delivery, we've developed specialist expertise in the unique demands of healthcare construction.
Every project has presented its own challenges, whether that's changing access constraints, evolving construction sequencing, unique compliance requirements or the need for specialised equipment and methodologies. Successfully navigating those variables has required careful planning, practical problem-solving and the flexibility to adapt as conditions change.
The projects below show how that expertise has been built, one hospital at a time.
Joondalup Health Campus
The Joondalup Health Campus redevelopment is Rigsafe's longest-running project. We have worked across seven stages of the project over more than five years, supporting both the public and private facilities.
The scope ranged from precast installation and structural steel erection through to crane hire, with equipment deployed across every stage of the build, including cranes up to 160 tonnes. As construction progressed, access to areas that were initially open became increasingly limited, meaning our lifting methodologies and equipment selection had to evolve alongside the project.
The scale and duration of the redevelopment meant almost every part of Rigsafe's fleet was utilised at different points throughout the programme.
We delivered the project on time and on budget across all seven stages - a track record that reflects how closely we reviewed and adjusted our lifting strategy as the build evolved around us.
Icon Cancer Centre Midland
Working in healthcare environments often means designing lifting methodologies around the space available, rather than expecting the site to accommodate conventional approaches.
At the Icon Cancer Centre in Midland, we helped construct a purpose-built radiation therapy bunker using 100 mm-thick solid steel panels - designed to contain radiation during treatment. Each oversized panel had to be carefully manoeuvred into the existing building before being positioned and installed within the tightly confined space.
The Rigsafe team developed a project-specific installation sequence that allowed the bunker to be safely constructed within the constraints of the existing building. The project showcased our ability to solve complex logistical challenges, adapting our approach to the environment and delivering a practical lifting solution where conventional methods simply wouldn't have worked.
Bunbury Regional Hospital
Rigsafe is delivering structural steel works at Bunbury Regional Hospital, with one building nearing completion and another just getting underway.
With staged delivery, areas that serve as laydown or crane operating zones early in the programme can quickly become restricted as new structures emerge, meaning access arrangements and lifting strategies require continual reassessment.
Future works, including construction of the helicopter landing pad, will introduce another layer of planning and specialist lifting requirements, reinforcing the need to think several stages ahead and continually adapt as the project evolves.
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
Enclosing an internal courtyard at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital required our Rigsafe team to think differently about lifting operations. Modular roof sections had to be installed within the constraints of an existing building, where access, positioning and sequencing were all shaped by the surrounding structure.
Combined with structural steel modifications elsewhere on site, the project required detailed planning around restricted access, careful coordination with concurrent works to ensure works could progress safely and efficiently.
Beyond these featured projects, Rigsafe has also worked on projects at St John of God Hospital Subiaco and Midland, Hollywood Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital. These hospital projects bring experience you can only get on the job: understanding the environment, adapting the methodology and selecting the right equipment for the task.
The preparation behind every hospital project
Experience has shown us that the planning and compliance requirements behind hospital projects are significant.
Every lift plan and methodology is developed in-house and tailored to the specific conditions of the site. Hospital onboarding requirements often extend well beyond a standard construction induction, with some health campuses requiring separate inductions, police clearances and up-to-date vaccinations, including annual flu jabs, before personnel are permitted to work.
Equipment must also satisfy stringent compliance requirements. Certifications, Inspection and Test Plans, quality assurance records and supporting documentation are maintained throughout delivery to meet the additional level of scrutiny typically associated with major government healthcare projects.
That's why experience in healthcare construction matters. It's not just about lifting capacity or technical capability. It's about understanding the operational realities of working in hospital environments, navigating complex compliance requirements and adapting methodologies to deliver safe, efficient outcomes. It's this combination of planning, flexibility and practical experience that has made healthcare one of Rigsafe's specialist areas.
