Project Requirements and Site Conditions

The Perth Film Studios project formed part of the Western Australian Government's $233.5 million investment to establish a world-class screen production facility capable of attracting major film and television productions to the state.

The development required the construction of 10 buildings within an accelerated 10-month programme, demanding careful planning, efficient construction methodologies and close coordination between multiple trades. The scale of the project, combined with strict programme requirements and complex structural elements, required an experienced lifting and rigging contractor capable of supporting high-volume installation works while maintaining safety, quality and productivity.

Key project elements included large precast concrete structures, modular roof assemblies and specialist lighting infrastructure requiring millimetre-level installation accuracy.

How Rigsafe Delivered the Work

Rigsafe provided an integrated lifting, rigging and installation solution throughout the project, supporting the safe and efficient construction of the new studio complex.

To accelerate delivery and improve safety outcomes, the project adopted a modular construction methodology. Large roof sections were assembled at ground level before being lifted approximately 20 metres into their final position, reducing work at height while improving installation efficiency and programme certainty.

Alongside the modular roof installation, Rigsafe completed extensive precast installation works, structural rigging and the precision installation of specialist lighting trolley systems that required exceptionally tight tolerances to meet operational requirements.

Working closely with the principal contractor and other project teams, Rigsafe coordinated lifting operations, equipment mobilisation and installation sequencing to maintain progress across the fast-paced construction programme.

Rigsafe's scope included:

• Installation of over 1,700 precast concrete elements
• Lifting and installation of 128 preassembled roof modules
• Installation of more than 5,000 metres of handrail
