Specialist transport, lifting and installation for engineered timber structures

Mass timber is transforming the future of construction. Engineered timber systems combine sustainability, efficient construction and architectural excellence, making them an increasingly important choice for commercial, education, healthcare, residential and public infrastructure projects.

Realising these benefits, however, requires specialist installation expertise.

Every Cross Laminated Timber panel, Glulam beam, column and engineered timber component must be transported, lifted and installed with precision. Careful handling is essential to protect finished surfaces, maintain structural integrity and achieve the tolerances required by modern mass timber construction.

At Rigsafe Lifting Solutions, we specialise in the transport, lifting, rigging and installation of mass timber structures across Perth and Western Australia.

Working alongside builders, engineers, timber suppliers and principal contractors, we provide integrated installation solutions supported by detailed lift planning, experienced permanent crews and a modern fleet of cranes and specialised lifting equipment.

Complete mass timber installation solutions

Every mass timber construction project presents different structural, architectural and logistical requirements. Rigsafe provides tailored mass timber installation solutions for:

Cross Laminated Timber panel installation
Glulam beam installation
Glulam column installation
Engineered timber floor systems
Structural timber wall panels
Timber roof structures
Large-span timber beams and trusses
Structural timber frames
Hybrid timber and structural steel construction
Modular timber components
Architectural timber elements
Timber stairs and prefabricated assemblies
Commercial mass timber buildings
Multi-storey timber structures

From initial methodology and delivery planning through to final positioning, our team can manage the complete lifting and mass timber installation scope.

End-to-end mass timber transport and installation

Mass timber components are high-value engineered products that require careful coordination from the moment they leave the manufacturer.

Through our integrated logistics, crane and rigging capability, Rigsafe can manage the complete journey of engineered timber components, from collection through to final installation on site. Our end-to-end services include:

Collection from manufacturers and suppliers
Transport and logistics planning
Oversized load coordination
Route and access planning
Delivery scheduling
Just-in-time delivery sequencing
Temporary staging and storage
Site unloading
Lift planning and engineered methodologies
Crane hire and crane operations
Specialist rigging and dogging
Structural installation
Site supervision
Project coordination
Having one contractor manage transport, lifting, rigging and installation reduces unnecessary handovers and gives clients a single point of responsibility throughout the operation.

This integrated approach improves communication, supports efficient sequencing and helps engineered timber components arrive safely, in the correct order and ready for installation.

Protecting high-value engineered timber

Mass timber components often form part of the building’s completed architectural finish. Unlike structural elements that will later be concealed, any damage during transport, rigging or installation may remain visible in the final building.

Our lifting and handling methodologies are developed to help minimise the risk of damage to exposed timber surfaces, edge and corner damage, incorrect rigging pressure, panel distortion, uncontrolled movement, moisture exposure, double handling, incorrect delivery sequencing, damage during temporary staging and installation delays.

Our experienced personnel understand that each component must be treated as both a structural element and a finished architectural product. Appropriate lifting equipment, rigging configurations, protection measures and controlled handling techniques are selected according to the component design and project requirements.

Detailed lift planning and installation sequencing

The speed advantages of mass timber construction depend on detailed planning and disciplined execution. Before mass timber installation begins, our lift planning and project teams work with builders, engineers, timber suppliers and other project stakeholders to develop a coordinated installation methodology. Planning may include:

Review of component schedules and drawings
Crane selection
Lift studies and crane configuration
Lifting-point verification
Rigging design
Installation sequencing
Delivery sequencing
Crane access and positioning
Ground-bearing requirements
Temporary works coordination
Site storage limitations
Exclusion zones
Wind and weather limitations
Protection of finished timber
Building tolerances
Connection methodology
Interface with other trades
Contingency planning

By resolving these requirements before components arrive, we help reduce crane downtime, minimise site congestion and maintain an efficient installation programme.

Coordinated delivery for high-volume mass timber installation

Large-scale mass timber installation projects can involve hundreds or thousands of individually scheduled components.

The efficiency of the mass timber installation process depends on each panel, beam and column arriving at the correct time and in the correct sequence. Our project teams coordinate transport, crane operations and installation activities to support just-in-time deliveries, efficient truck turnaround, reduced site congestion, minimal double handling, continuity between work fronts, accurate component sequencing, productive use of crane time and coordination with structural steel and other trades.

This level of planning allows builders to take full advantage of mass timber’s prefabricated construction model while maintaining safety, quality and programme certainty.

Cross laminated timber installation

Cross Laminated Timber, commonly known as CLT, is used for structural walls, floors, roofs, cores and other prefabricated building elements. CLT panels can be large and dimensionally precise, requiring careful lifting, controlled movement and accurate positioning during installation.

Our CLT installation capability includes wall panel installation, floor panel installation, roof panel installation, core and shaft elements, prefabricated structural assemblies, multi-storey CLT construction, and hybrid CLT and steel structures.

Our teams coordinate crane movements, rigging configurations, access equipment and installation sequencing to ensure each panel is safely positioned and ready for connection.

Glulam beam and column installation

Glue Laminated Timber, or Glulam, allows designers to create long-span beams, columns, arches and feature structures with strength and architectural impact. These components may be oversized, unusually shaped or installed at complex angles, making specialist lift planning essential. Rigsafe provides lifting and installation services for:

Glulam beams
Glulam columns
Long-span roof beams
Curved and architectural timber elements
Timber trusses
Feature entrance structures
Hybrid timber and steel connections
Sporting and community facility structures

Each lift is planned around the component’s dimensions, centre of gravity, lifting points, finished surfaces and final connection requirements.

Hybrid timber and structural steel installation

Many mass timber developments combine engineered timber with structural steel, precast concrete or other structural systems. Managing these interfaces can be challenging when different contractors are responsible for each part of the structure. Rigsafe’s broader installation capability allows us to support multiple structural systems within the same construction programme.

Our ability to coordinate mass timber installation and structural steel installation provides a significant advantage on hybrid projects. It reduces contractor interfaces, supports consistent lifting methodologies and allows construction sequencing to be managed as one coordinated operation.

Specialist equipment for mass timber construction

Every engineered timber structure presents unique lifting and access requirements. Depending on the project, our equipment capability may include mobile cranes up to 160 tonnes, Franna cranes, Maeda spider cranes, telehandlers, rotating telehandlers, boom lifts, engineered spreader beams, lifting frames, purpose-designed rigging systems and specialist lifting accessories.

The appropriate crane and equipment configuration is selected according to component weights, lifting radii, building height, site access and installation sequence. Our diverse fleet allows us to support projects ranging from restricted-access mass timber installations through to large-scale commercial structures.

Proven experience: NAB Murdoch Boola Katitjin

Rigsafe’s standout mass timber project is the NAB Murdoch Boola Katitjin Timber Building, one of Western Australia’s most significant engineered timber developments. The large-scale commercial project involved the installation of approximately 1,800 engineered timber components totalling more than 3,000 tonnes, together with associated structural steel.

Each timber component required careful handling to protect the engineered product while achieving precise structural alignment. The scale and complexity of the project also demanded detailed lift planning, accurate sequencing and close coordination between the mass timber and structural steel works.
